Creekbed Maple
In the dappled light of the creek bed, snowmelt rushes past jutting rocks revealing jewel colors of serpentine and jasper. A regal maple spreads its branches, shading trout and crawfish in shallow pools. We’ve walked a long ways to hear the woodland songs of water and wind rustling leaves in high branches. In my pocket, a beautiful spotted leaf, my humble souvenir of the wild.
