Cons:
- The bungee latch holding the cover closed is annoying; A kindle is meant to be a replacement for a smartphone, providing entertainment at the drop of a hat without necessarily plugging me back into the digital world. The bungee is not difficult, but it doesn't streamline the opening process for me.
- The magnet is incorrectly placed. Kindles use hall-effect sensors to detect when a cover with magnets is closed upon them, and the scribe does not have the hall-effect sensor placed perfectly halfway between the bottom and top of the device, presumably because that might cause issues with the USB port or the magnetic pen dock. This case also has only one magnet, not two, meaning the auto-wake/sleep only works if I keep the thick bezel on the right side.
- The cover folds back, helping to prop up the device, which is a lovely feature, although when propped up it feels asymmetrically heavy, like it's constantly going to fall forwards onto me. to that same end, the hinging section of the cover/case also feels a bit floppy, causing variation in the angle at which it holds the scribble up.
- The pen holder, is a nice feature, but not too useful as the pen takes up too much space and causes the cover to not fold up as well... the bottom edge of the front panel doesn't reach all the way to the bottom edge of the back panel.
Pros:
- It is a genuine leather cover, for the same price as Amazon's "premium" leather cover, which doesn't feel all that premium.
- The corner straps holding the kindle to the device is much more secure than Amazon's magnetic attach.
- Unlike the vast majority of third-party cases, this one does have some mechanism to allow you to prop the scribe up in a reading-only position. (A requirement, since I like to have it on my work desk to read in between tasks.)
I know the detractions seem almost monumental for most, but I had to go into detail to explain why they were a detraction, compared to the strong pros for this cover. As it stands, I will use the slightly flimsier Amazon folio at home, but use this when I take my device away from home, since it's very protective and hampers the usability of the device only marginally.
