  • Button and Leather thong closure, hand cast in our Oberon metal casting shop.
  • Add an adhesive pen loop to your cover here
Journals - Large 6 x 9 inches or Small 5 x 6.875 inches
  • Book Insert included: blank, hardbound, unlined, made with recycled, heavy bond, acid free paper with a lined template sheet for straight lined writing. Simply place the template behind the page as you write. The bold lines show through just enough.
  • Book Insert size: Large 5.5 x 8.5 inches with 208 pages / Small 4.25 x 6.25 inches with 220 pages
  • Weight with book in cover:Large 1.6 lb / Small .80 lb.
  • Large Journal is a great fit for standard A5 size notebook fillers. (*A5 standard international paper size – 5.8 x 8.3 inches / 148 x 210 mm. *Dimensions vary slightly between "standard" A5 notebooks. A notebook that is similar to these dimensions will work, just make sure that the spine isn't too deep (7/8 inch or less).

Large Notebook Covers vs Large Journals. What is the difference?

Our full grain custom tanned domestic bullhide is drum dyed for a rich saturated color. It has a medium firm temper which will get soft and supple with use, while still keeping it's structured shape.

Small healed scars, bites and stretch marks may be visible and are evidence of the life of the cow. These perfect imperfections are part of what makes your leather piece unique and beautiful.

Please note, variations in lighting, photography, screen settings and dye lots do occur. These photos are representative only and may not exactly match what you will see in real life. Normal production time for a Leather Cover is 3-5 weekdays (more time may be needed for personalized orders or during the height of the holiday season).

    gorgeous journal

    I have been a big fan of Oberon since finding a Kindle cover from them over a decade ago. Since that time, I have obtained Oberon covers for iPads, more Kindles, and used the small and large portfolios, composition notebook covers, and journals. (please bring back large iPad covers, Oberon) This design and Celtic Hounds are my favorite. I gift these all the time. They are beautifully made, heirloom quality, and will be an item that is passed down from generation to generation. There is something about the Tree of Life design that makes one want to write. Recently I have started to gift the Tree of Life journal for legacy work. I hope Oberon the company is around forever. I so appreciate that this is a small US company that still produces hand made, artisan products.

    As beautiful today as when I bought it!

    I bought this journal in the Saddle color 20 years ago, before making a significant move. It was a way to record the new chapter in my life. It has been with me through multiple moves now, and is my constant companion, and it is every bit as beautiful today as it was when I first saw it. If you are on the fence, you absolutely will not regret this purchase. It will be with you for life.

    Leather Refillable Journal, Tree of Life

    I had been considering this journal since first seeing it about two months ago, I took the plunge. I'm not disappointed in my choice to do so. The stamp design is clean and clear, the craftsmanship and materials appear to be in very good order and well thought through. The leather is tough, not soft and supple, which I assume is necessary for the stamping process and I am sure will soften with use. I am also pleased that journal accessories are available for future purchase as the tie and pen loop will will naturally wear and weaken with much use. Well done Oberon Design. Question: Should the leather be cleaned and conditioned periodically?

    Tree of Life Journal

    I ordered the small Tree of Life Journal in Saddle as a gift for a friend. It arrived quickly, safely and well packaged. This friend loves trees . This was her introduction to Oberon and she loved it ! I have been gifted a large journal, business card holder and small notebook over the years and they all look beautiful and have become a little bit softer over time. It’s beautiful & functional

    Disappointed

    It feels like plastic and does not look as though it is refillable but bound. I gave this as a keepsake for my children to share their lives with their children and paid almost a hundred dollars and I expected a fine grade of leather and refillable pages as advertised, and it looked so nice in the picture.

    Thank you for your product review. I just wanted to be in touch to let you know that the journal is definitely refillable. The cover fits over the hard bound book insert like a book jacket. When that book is filled, simply remove it, and insert another one. As to the feel of plastic, perhaps you are perceiving this due to the stiffness of the new leather and the freshness of the embossing. Give it a chance to break in. Like any good quality leather, it’ll warm up to a soft supple feel with use.     I have loved my refillable journal for decades

    This Journal is perfect and only got better through the years!! I can use refillable journals that I dont mind writing in, and replace as I fill them. But also enjoy a beautiful experience. I have gotten fancy single use journals that I was afraid to use because i didnt want to "mess them up". The leather only gets more beautiful with use. No signs of wearing out after decades. Unfortunately I misplaced it and now need to buy another,

    My life’s companion

    I bought this journal cover within a couple of years of my writing start, ca 1993. Now I’m on journal # 37. I bought a few of Oberon’s notebooks but having to move that ruled piece of paper broke my train of thought. After that I’ve filled it with multiple different notebooks over the years, whatever I could find to fit. I bought this cover thinking of it as my yggdrasil, or tree of life. I wanted something special to accompany me on my writing journey, and make me want to write every day. This beautiful cover has filled the bill, aging gracefully and always beautiful. In fact, its one of the best and wisest purchases I have made in my long life. Thank you.

    Just amazing.

    I now own six different Oberon products and they all are masterpieces. The Tree of Life Large Journal is the third item with the TOL design and it arrived today. I have it on two different tablet covers as well. It's obviously my favorite. The detail and craftsmanship is beyond all others. And the fact that I could now get personalized solidified the sale. Thanks for another great piece that will create memories!

    A Gift for the Long Run

    Beautifully designed, quality heavy leather that will last for many years. I bought one of these for each of my grandchildren for their 21st birthday. I’ve given 2 of them and the other 3 will receive it when they reach that birthday. The embossed oak tree is to remind them of the huge oak on my farm, where they have played for many years. A unique and inspirational gift.

    Great 3rd Wedding Anniversary Gift
